Physiotherapy for functional disorders in the jaw and cranial region.
Craniomandibular dysfunction describes functional disorders in the interaction of the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles and cranial base. It can lead to pain, movement restrictions and functional complaints in the head, neck and facial region.
Indications
- Pain in the temporomandibular joint or masticatory muscles
- Restrictions in mouth opening or jaw mobility
- Temporomandibular joint sounds (e.g. clicking, grinding)
- Associated complaints such as head, neck or facial pain
Therapy goals
- Improvement of temporomandibular joint function
- Reduction of pain and muscular tension
- Normalization of muscular balance in the orofacial system
- Improvement of everyday function (chewing, speaking)
Procedure
Physiotherapy treatment includes manual therapy techniques, muscle relaxation, coordination exercises and instruction in home exercises and behavioral adjustments. Therapy is individually adapted to findings and functional disorder.
